Woohoo it's Monday!

and I don’t have to be to work today šŸ˜†

I managed to make a dent in the ā€œto-doā€ list I posted on Friday.

The swim went great for me. I managed to push myself 100 yards further than the last trip, plus for the 1st time I managed to swim 100 yards twice without stopping. The second time I had to roll over and backstroke a couple of times, but I did NOT stop. This is a great breakthrough for me as it shows me that I have not been pushing myself hard enough. Kahuna is convinced I need to be swimming everyday, and I’m going to ramp it up a little this week. I don’t know if that means going more yards per trip, or more trips. I’ll be playing it by ear.

Saturday I got my hair cut….short. She even shaved my neck, which I’ve never had done in my life!! I’m not sure I like the cut. It’s really the same as I’ve had, just shorter in the back. My hair grows in a circle around my head and with it being this short, it kind of wants to do the fuzzy chicken thing unless I mess with it a lot. I’m not the sort of person who wants to mess with her hair much. I got it cut short for less messing with. I’ll see if it ā€œgrowsā€ on me. I love the way it looks, it’s just a little more work than what I’m wanting. I also went to a new stylist, who was 50% cheaper, fast, great – and pregnant. Why is it I feel like I find someone I like, they’re never around for long? I didn’t ask her if she was going to return after having the baby (her first). I’ll go to her again in about 6 weeks and I’ll talk to her then. I’ve also found myself a new manicurist, who’s also 50% cheaper than my last one. I wasn’t going to continue having my nails done but the swimming just destroys them, and while I don’t keep them very long, I would like for them to look nice. Both ladies work at the salon on the base which is 5 minutes from where I live. Amazing the great resources you can find when you take the time to look. But you realize that I’m moving right? šŸ˜†

During all this beautifying Kahuna was surfing, and then he had a cycle/run brick which left me at the house working in my office. I think it was 3 before we left the house to do our errands. I went to Joann’s and got the fibers picked out for Hannah Beeby. I am really happy with my choice and am looking forward to the stitchalong starting the end of March. I’ve decided on DMC 839, 3863, and 224 on Lambswool Linen.

I haven’t decided on 28 or 32 count, but am leaning toward the 28. I just need to see if what I have is large enough. I also picked up a pair of embroidery scissors, a thread holder for my sewing machine and a couple of other little things bringing my total to less than what I would have paid for the scissors full price. Yay for sales and coupons. I neglected to get a new bulb for my OTT though and I have a 40% coupon for that, that I really need to take advantage of, since the lighting by my sewing machine is next to none.

I went through my pantry Saturday and made a menu and grocery list around what was in there. I’m determined to get us back toĀ eating betterĀ and not break the bank doing it. I spent less than my budgeted $75 on groceries Sunday, and only forgot 1 thing. Woohoo!

The rest of the day was spent doing a whole lot of not much. We really enjoyed Daytona 500. I would have been happier if Dale Earnhart or Casey Kahne won, but it was great that Tony Stewart or Jeff Gordan did not! šŸ™‚ The rest of my time on Sunday was spent on and off in my office. I made great headway with my desk and got my keyboard and printer moved and almost everything put where I want it OFF the desk. I have some photos to be framed and moved around and I’ll be tickled with my desk setup.

Stitching? Well except for playing floss toss for Hannah, I didn’t have anything to do with stitching on Saturday or Sunday. That will be different today though. I am running out to town to see about the above mentioned picture frames, and to hit up Costco for some bread (but will still be way under budget). The rest of my day will be spent doing laundry, stitching, and catching up with the stuff I have recorded on the DVR. I only have 1 small thing to stitch on the RR that I want to mail out tomorrow and then I’ll be working on Ann Holewll. I’m going to have to piece together some qsnap components for it, but am planning on using some of the money I get from selling my stash to buy another set of rods for my Handi Clamps.

I would like to get the fabric cut for Houses of Hawk Run Hollow today, but if it doesn’t happen I’m not going to worry about it and just put it on next week’s ā€œto-doā€ list. My poor French Alphabet Sampler is probably going to be ignored today as well since I really need to get caught up with Ann Holewll.

I wanted to stay off the computer over the weekend and except for cleaning out some old emails and emptying my camera chip, I did pretty good! I managed to sell several of the Shepherd’s Bush items I posted so was on the computer getting that squared away. I didn’t do any posting of The Silver Lining stuff, but that’s because the box they’re in is sort of out of reach right now as I work my way across my office cleaning and sorting and selling. I do need to get them up though.

I didn’t get anything done on ebookdrop.com either. I could probably do that from work, since I’ll have to haul them in for mailing anyway. I know the prices won’t be much, but they’ll be more than just sitting in my office taking up space and collecting dust. I’m almost to the point of throwing things away so I don’t have to move it or clean around it so if I can get some money for it, that’s better. I also want to look into cashduck.com for a bit more income. I think I’d rather go this route for now and not increase my hours at work until we decide where we’re going to live. I may increase them by 15 minutes a day though in a week or so. We’ll see.

I’ve decided to split whatever extra I have coming in equally 3 ways:

Training – Kahuna is building me a bike from components he’s selling on one of his bikes, and I want to contribute. This money will stay in paypal, since he buys a lot of components from places that accept paypal.

Stitching – I love my hobby. I have tons of money invested in it. I have lots of beautiful things to work with without buying more so I’m trying to buy only what I need to stitch from my stash. The first item will be the 14ā€ bars for the Handi Clamps I mentioned above. I’ll probably also use this $Ā for finishing. I have a savings account I don’t use that I’ll keep these funds in.

Debt – While it won’t be much, the last 1/3 of my extra income will go toward getting my debt paid off.

I thought I would feel deprived while I worked on getting myself out of my debt fix; however, I have taken the advice of several blogs I read and made sure to have some “wants” budgeted for (like my manicures). It’s working and I almost feel like I’m playing a game seeing what I can accomplish with what I have. I’m also trying to get out of the impulse spending that I practiced in the past. I’m doing pretty good! I also have my wonderful hobby that entertains me which helps a lot.

I didn’t mean for this to get so long, but I guess I had a lot to get down after all my thinking this weekend. I guess I’d better say ā€œThe Endā€ to this novel and get on with my day.

Gearing up for a long weekend

Friday sure got here fast and I’m ready to go home and start my long weekend.Ā  Kahuna just left from bringing me Taco Bell.Ā  Not exactly waistline friendly, but I have $1 and no time to go to the bank.Ā  There’s a Taco Bell on the base by where he works so since he got off early today he was kind enough to drive by and drop off some food.Ā  Actually, he hung around long enough to eat with me before he left.

And just to backtrack to yesterday for a minute, my Kahuna Marine surprised me!Ā  He brought me the most beautiful bouquet of creamy orange roses for Valentine’s Day.Ā  I have to stick my nose in them everytime I walk by.Ā  They are so gorgeous.

We had unexpected storms yesterday that left roads closed due to snow and mudslides.Ā  Today’s temperatures are low but the sky is a clear blue.Ā  I hope it stays that way all weekend because Kahuna has a lot of cycling and running to do.Ā  It’s just 6 weeks to his half-ironman.Ā  I think he’s getting excited.Ā  I know I am, and I’m just volunteering!

So what’s up with me for the weekend?

  • I’m going to do my best to stay off the computer this weekend, except to post more stuff 4Sale.Ā  I was rather surprised how fast I got the SB stuff together last night, but that’s the way it should be when you’re organized.Ā  I think my The Silver Lining items are organized already, so hopefully that’ll be painfree.
  • I’m going to try to get rid of some books on ebookdrop.com this weekend.Ā  If you have experience with it, leave a comment, please.
  • I want to get a lot of stitching done this weekend.
    • Get RRĀ piece in the mail.
    • Get my lessons done on Ann Holewll.
    • Get the fibers needed for Hannah Beeby.
  • I’ve decided to quit putting of starting HOHRH and will pull my fabric and get it measured out to start the first block.Ā  Who knows, it may even get some stitches.
  • French Alphabet Sampler desperately needs attention!

We’re headed to the pool tonight after supper and then maybe settle in with the puppies and watch a movie.Ā  Have a great weekend all.Ā  Oh, and don’t forget…..Gentlemen, start your engines!Ā  Woohoo!

Shepherd's Bush 4Sale

I’ve finally started listing my stash for sale.Ā  Shepherd’s Bush is the first to be listed.Ā  I’ll probably be going through my The Silver Lining designs next.Ā  All items can be found under the “4Sale” tab at the top of my blog.Ā  Thank you in advance for looking.

Hail and Farewell

First the farewell:Ā  Last night I finally cleaned out the wonderful Old Navy canvas bookbag that IĀ dragged around school for 3 years.Ā  It only took me 9 months from the time I graduated to do it.Ā  I cannot believe I actually felt sad doing it.Ā  It is a fantastic bag and will be used again in the future.Ā

Hail to Valentine’s Day, not.Ā  Try as I might I could not talk Kahuna intoĀ sticking with our weekly Wednesday night out to dinner plans.Ā  He wanted to change them to tonight, so we’re going out tonight.Ā  Where a bazillion other people will be waiting around for an hour for a table to eat food that will probably not taste as well as it normally does because they’re so crowded and in a hurry to get people fed and out the door to feed other people.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate the sentiment, it just that he’s my Valentine every day of the year, and he knows how I feel about him, since I don’t wait until the 1 or 2 obligatoryĀ days of the year to tell him, so I don’t feel the need to do something special just because Hallmark says February 14 is a special day of the year.Ā

And something I forgot

I am going to probably start making my own bread again. Nothing fancy in the past, just my bread machine, but now I’d like some good french and whole wheat recipes and the recommendation of a good bread knife. I hate it when I try to cut my bread and the knife smooshes it. Just ruins the whole dang experience.

šŸ™‚

Give a gal a hand?

I was off work again yesterday while 90% of the world went to work.Ā Ā Ā IfĀ youĀ read my blog then you’ll recallĀ that staying home when most everyone else is at work makes me yearn to be aĀ kept woman.Ā  I’m still on that quest.Ā  Yesterday, I spentĀ lot of timeĀ thinking on how best to get me there.Ā  I have a couple of areas that need some major straightening out.Ā  They both revolve aroundĀ money.Ā  We do not want for anything right now, and I’d like for it to remain that way when Kahuna finally retires.

I am trying to get my act together to where I don’t H.A.V.E. to work.Ā Ā Not today, next month, or probably even next year, but at the most in 5 years,Ā I want to beĀ able to be voluntarily unemployed.Ā Ā I don’t know if I’m the type of person who could just quit and be 100% financially dependant on Kahuna, but I would like to find out, and if I find myself going cabin crazy, I’d like to be able to either just be a volunteer somewhere, or if I feel the need for pocket money of my own,Ā temp, or at the most work part time a few days a week.Ā  So, while I’ve been working on that, I’m wanting to ramp it up a bit.

With that I stand here, hat in hand, sort of, and ask you for your help.Ā

  • I want Kahuna and I to start “eating clean.”Ā  If you have any resources that you personally swear by, I would appreciate the referral.
  • I want to only spend $300 a month to do the above and am looking for some “shopping lists” that accomplish that.Ā  So far I’ve only found $200 a month for 1 person.Ā  Right now I’m spending close to $500 and I feel like I’m wasting a lot of money.

I’m hoping by putting this out there, someone may suggest something that I haven’t thought of.Ā  I’m planning on going to the bookstore this weekend for a sit and browse and any books suggestions will be hunted down.

A weekend well spent

Thank you all so much for your comments on the bourse. It was surprisinly easy to make and I’ll definitely being making more of them andĀ it has given me the confidence to try other things.

Needless to say my visit with Melissa was as wonderful as it always is. Probably better since we finally got to have our Christmas and then I got to share her birthday with her. She arrived around 11 and after exchanging gifts we went to lunch at a local Greek cafĆ©. I love their food and if Kahuna and I move away from here, we’re going to miss this place. Their soups are to die for and I’m always tempted to lick the bowl! LOL I ended up getting soup to go for Melissa and I to have forĀ supper that evening.

After we got home she helped me work on the photo program that’s attached to my webpage. I have a lot of uploading to do still, but it will be located (for now) at trixsterri.com/photos

Believe it or not, we stitched! I even have a happy dance from it. I finished stitching Atelier de brodeuse, which I neglected to take a photo of last night. I’ll remedy that and provide the promised hula girl lamp photo šŸ˜‰ hopefully later today. I plan on finishing it into a wall hanging using some of the tons of fabric I already have.

While we were gone Kahuna was out on a 3 ½ hour bike ride. My behind hurts just thinking about it. He wasn’t home for very long (and he was resting during that) before he left again to attend the monthly networking meeting at our tri-club. I opted to stay home and visit with Melissa and I’m so glad we did because we were together for practically the whole day.Ā  We were still talking away when he got home from his meeting and had been in bed asleep for quite some time by the time Melissa left.Ā  We had so much catching up to do!

Sunday morning while Kahuna was out surfing I got some organization done. I cleaned out the refrigerator and made a grocery list toĀ restock it with healthy food. I don’t know how it happens, but that refrigerator was crammed full of stuff and it was hard to tell what was in there, and a lot of it was stuff we shouldn’t be eating. I still need to tackle the pantry.Ā  Sometime during all this Kahuna also went on a 9 mile run.Ā  After I got groceries put away I worked in my office some. I took photos of what I need to work on so I can decide what to do each time I get in there. I feel so overwhelmed by the clutter that sometimes it’s hard for me to tell that I’ve made any progress. I know taking photos of my stitching shows me progress, so I figure doing the same in my office will help.

I never did get around to stitching any yesterday. Later in the afternoon Kahuna decided he was too tired to clean our cars and God bless him he paid to have them both detailed out in town. My little bumble-Z is so pretty when she’s clean. After that we went and had a coffee and just sat and talked, which we haven’t done this weekend with us both sort of going in opposite directions. I made sure we had a sit-down meal for supper and I felt when the day ended that we were somewhat back into a normal routine.

So here it is Monday again. The weekend went by too quickly and the alarm sounded too early. Today, I return to the gym. I thought to do it last week as soon as the doctor told me I could, but since I wasn’t expecting the doctor to “release” me, I had planned so much to do during my early time home from work. My gym bag is currently sitting at my feet under my desk and I have a phone call in to my trainer to discuss a few things with her. Even though I’m not going to be able to retain her services right now, she wanted me to call her when I was able to return so she could give me some things to do that wouldn’t put too much stress on my foot.

Secret project reveal

I am not a sewer.Ā  In fact, it’s been so long since I used my machine that I don’t know where the instruction booklet is and am having fits trying to get the bobbin tension proper.

I’ve long wanted to make some of the wonderful smalls I’ve seen in the stitching world.Ā  Pillows of all sorts, wall hangings, needlebooks, bourses, etc., but because I don’t sew well I’ve always been intimidated to give it a go.

If there’s anyone in the stitching, or triathlon, world that doesn’t know, I consider Melissa a sister of my heart.Ā  She’s my BFF šŸ™‚ and knows more about me than anyone else in the world except Kahuna.Ā  I met her online.

When I lived in Japan I joined a yahoo WW group that she ran.Ā  I don’t remember how long I was a member of the group before I unsubbed and moved to California; but one day, I rejoined.Ā  She followed a link in my signature to my stitching photos and wrote me that she stitched too.Ā  I think I had a folder of some designs I was selling/trading and she contacted me then to do a trade, but anyway, this really kicked off us getting to really know one another.Ā  A while later there was a get together of local to me stitchers and she drove down and that was our first face to face meeting.Ā  We ate lunch at Chili’s that day and she sat across from me and I remember thinking “I’m going to like this gal!”Ā  Little did I know!Ā  LOLĀ  We haveĀ so many things in common.

Ā Here it is, more than 6 years later, and I feel so blessed to have her in my life.Ā  She’s the first person I think of sharing anything with, next to Kahuna and sometimes I don’t even share it with him.Ā  She is one of the most giving people I know andĀ I know how appreciative she is of every stitching gift/exchange she receives.Ā Ā I wanted to be one of the someones who has given her something.Ā

She’s coming over today (in fact I just verified that she’s on the way) for us to finally have our Christmas get together.Ā  Our schedules have not allowed us to visit since Thanksgiving and I have truly missed visiting face to face with her.Ā  Her birthday is next week, and she’s going to be out of town, so I’m also gifting her with her birthday gift, which is what I’ve been secretly working on.Ā  There’s a little written bit that goes along with the gift, but I’ll let her share that if she wants.Ā  I think I was brave enough to attempt it because I knew she loved me and wouldn’t judge my errors too harshly and know that the attempt was an attempt from the heart.

The stitching isĀ over 1 on 25 ct antique white Lugana in DMC 321.Ā  The fibers in the bourse are Belle Soie Cranberry, Lasagne, Elegant Eggplant, Fresh Raspberries, Carrot Cake, Espresso and Creme de Menthe.Ā  Sounds like a great birthday meal, doesn’t it! šŸ˜‰

Tag – I'm it

I got tagged by Melissa.Ā  Here’s the good, bad, and ugly.

1. I do not like children

2. I am strongly against illegal immigrants and a lot of my job deals with them.

3. I have been stitching for more than 30 years.

4. I could probably go the rest of my life without leaving my house and be perfectly happy.

5. I’m probably the most judgmental person I know.

6. I know karate.

7. I love to drive very fast

8. People don’t know me as well as they think they do.

9. I’m happily married to someone who doesn’t say “I love you.”

10. I love coconut cake.

Now, I thought about not tagging anyone else, because I really don’t like these things.Ā  They put too much pressure on me because I feel like all the randomness in my life is not nice stuff, but I figured what the heck…I’ll just be not nice and put the pressure on someone else! šŸ˜†Ā Ā  Of course this probably means they’ll never comment on my blog again…Sue and Karin…tag, you’re it!

Stitch Stash Update

Wonderful postal day to top off my wonderful doctor office visit.

Today’s mail brought me more silks for Houses of and Village of Hawk Run Hollow.Ā  I’m 1 silk short of having all of them for HOHRH, and that’s because I typed in the wrong number by one digit when I sent in my order. šŸ™„

Ā I also received theĀ latest Blackbird Designs Loose Feathers, WhereĀ My Heart Blooms.Ā  While IĀ love almost every other one I’ve received, I think this one is definately my favorite so far and has been moved to the top of my start list for Loose Feathers designs.Ā  This year I have decided that my automatics should include chart and fibers only so I can start to use some of the tiny bit of fabric stash I have.Ā  Did I just hear someone choke? šŸ˜›

Have you ever noticed yourselfĀ collectingĀ designs without realizing it?Ā  While I do already have a few of the designs, I have found myself inĀ a Little House NeedleworksĀ mood lately.Ā  Either my tastes have altered just a bit or Diane is designing more with me in mind šŸ˜‰Ā  AnywayĀ I have added several charts to myĀ smallĀ chart stash (there was thatĀ sputtering sound again!), namely, Neccessities Sampler, Psalm 145, The Sampler Lady, Nature’s Beauty, Two White Houses, Two Red Houses, Two Blue Houses, and Home of a Needlworker (too!).Ā  Quite the haul, huh.

I don’t know why I put them off for so long, but I also picked up a couple of Prairie Schooler’s Santas: 1984-1987, 1988 – 1991, and 1996 – 1999.Ā  I definately would like to add the others, but they’ll have to go on my wish list for now.

So, Kahuna has come home from work, dinner has been served and cleaned up after (oh the joys of leftovers!), puppies have been played with, and it’s now time for me to catch up with my DVR and stitch.
