It is hot here

I swear I’m a blockhead.  Lesson learned today….make sure your training toy is set before you go to bed instead of trying to set it when you first crawl out of bed.

Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

I managed to mess up my watch, so my times were all off.  Instead of doing the above training program, I had my watch set for 30 seconds and 60 seconds.  I’m a dope.  As soon as I finished the 1st run I knew something wasn’t right!  It was too easy!  LOL

I also messed up when I mapped my run.  I went back and looked at the loop and I overlapped part of the course, so what I’ve really been walk/running is .9 miles.  I have corrected that issue as well and the REAL loop is 1.1 miles.

I honestly can’t believe how disappointed I was that I had messed up my watch this morning!  Oh well, Wednesday will be here before I know it.

It.is.hot.here.  Kahuna and I went out shopping again today.  He decided he needed the shorts he bought day before in every color they had so we headed back out.  They only had 1 other color though.  I did manage to score another pair of spiffy reading glasses…need them for all the proofreading I do at work.  We also headed over to Performance Sports, but didn’t buy anything.  Had to leave before Kahuna talked himself into a new seat.  The other places we went were Lowes, Home Depot, and Costco, which was closed.

Back home doing laundry and did I say IT.IS.HOT.HERE!

Labor day weekend stuff

Kahuna got his surf on and I had my nails done, then we spent the majority of yesterday shopping.  Every now and then we just hit one store after the other in the really large shopping center near us.  Sometimes we score, sometimes we don’t.  I managed to find a top and some shoes for work and I was able to find these great pony tail holders that I’ve been looking for, almost forever, but I wasn’t able to find any suits for work, so I ended up coming home and ordering a couple.  Kahuna bought Harley himself 2 pairs of shoes, 2 shorts, and a book.  While we did get Starbucks, we didn’t eat out, which is what we’ve normally done in the past.  Yeah us!

It’s still morning here and we’ve been busy. Kahuna has been surfing and put the 3rd side of our new fence up.  I’ve gone to WW (-.8#), gotten grocery shopping finished and we’ve had sushi for lunch.  I still need to get my veggie bags for work ready but I plan on doing laundry and stitching for the rest of the day.

We’re grilling steak and have baked potatoes and salad tonight, and grilling carne asada tomorrow. Can’t wait!

I decided to start week 1 over again on Monday, and I’m glad I did. All day long yesterday I felt like the whole bottom of my foot, toward my heel, was a giant stone bruise. Of course it probably doesn’t help that I wear the national shoe of California (flip flops) all day long.

One last thing. I read some absolutely wonderful advice Kim left in a comment on Duane’s blog. I hope she doesn’t mind that I adopt it as well, and share it here. She said not to talk negative.

“Lose weight (you are not losing anything… you are GAINING health and fitness) – Diet (has negative connotations, you are fueling), working out (it is not work it is fun and you ARE an athlete so you TRAIN), you are not fat (you are an Olympic caliber athlete whose body is surrounded by a foreign mass that is keeping you from being in optimal health – it is NOT YOU).”

I also read somewhere (I’ve been reading a lot of fitness book excerpts on Amazon lately) that instead of saying “I want to” say “I will,” so bright and early tomorrow morning, I will be out running my loop. And yes, I AM A RUNNER.

Dedication or deprivation?

I love baseball.  I have been thrilled with the new TV in the bedroom, since I can go in there and watch the latter half of a game in HD, then turn out the light and go to sleep.  Last night, I turned the TV off at a little past 9 and missed the last 2 innings of the Padres’ game.  It was super tough since they had just hit a 2-run homer to pull out ahead of the Diamondbacks.  I see by this mornings SI report they won.  I whined silently to myself that I wanted to watch the rest of the game, but this morning when that alarm sounded at 4:45 a.m., I only hit the snooze once and thanked myself for turning off the TV and getting 8 hours (sort of) of sleep.  As humid as it was last night, I woke several times sweating, so I can only imagine how tough it would have been getting up if I had continued to watch the game.  This morning was strength training, so here’s a “thank you” to my very own personal trainer, the Kahuna, who did his own thing this morning and will be doing swim training tonight.

Oh, and will someone please tell me where my stitching mojo has gone.  I really have a LOT to do and I miss the stress relief.

Celebrations

Bandit on guardToday we’re celebrating my sweet Bandit’s 4th birthday!  He’s being spoiled more than usual 😉

I’m also celebrating weigh in this morning, although I don’t feel like I should be. I ate horribly this past week, or at least I feel I did, but I had a 2.4# loss, that I’ll happily take.

And, last but certainly not least, I’m celebrating that I signed up for my first 5K. It’s in November, and the first thing that went through my head after I hit send was “what in the world am I thinking!!!” Tomorrow I’m starting the Couch-to-5K program on the Cool Running site.

4 more sleeps

I thought about calling this post “4 more sleeps until the torture begins” but I really don’t want to start taking that attitude about my getting fit again. All of the appropriate running clothing is now residing in my house; however, I have decided to downsize in the iron-cast bra department. This will only put me back 2 days in starting the running portion of my “training” but that’s okay. I intend to walk the 1.2 mile route I’m going to use on Monday and see how long it takes me to walk it. I figure that will give me a base to compare to in the future.

I’ve been trying to dress “nicer” for work and start to wear heels again, and I’m working on a blister on the bottom of my right foot right under my big toe. That will be just wonderful to start running with.

The Kahuna is home today. No water to surf, so the puppies will be glad to have someone to pester for cookies all day today. He’s decided to taking swimming lessons again so the puppies and I are on our own on Tues and Thurs evenings for awhile.

No major plans for the coming weekend except maybe catch a movie (I’m dying to see Superbad) and stitching.

Weekend recap

Melissa came to visit yesterday and we shopped until I had a blister on my foot.  I can honestly say I was home for about an hour and a half from the time I got out of bed, until she left.  I had a mani/pedicure appointment first thing and was home less than 30 minutes when she came driving up.  We went to lunch and then headed to Barnes and Nobles, Ulta, Avenue, Henry’s (I’m in love!), came home ate  some supper and then headed back out to Sports Authority and Bed, Bath and Beyond.  I slept great last night.

I had my first weigh-in after returning to WW this morning.  Down .6#  While a lot of people may be discouraged by this small amount I was fine with it.  I never worry too much about how many points I’m eating the first week since I’m really just getting myself in the habit of being accountable.  I also use the first week to gauge if how I’m eating is going to work for me.  I managed to have 10 weekly points left over, but there were a couple of days I felt like I was starving and wanted to eat everything in sight.

Since my meeting is at 9 a.m. I’m making sure my grocery list is ready the night before so I can hit the Commissary as soon as I leave the meeting.  This will help keep me motivated to stay with my grocery list and not pick up something that I probably really don’t need.  I have noticed over the past month or so that I’m more and more shopping from the perimeter of the store.  I would guess 90%.  I’m also buying pre-cut fruits and veggies since that seems to be the biggest deterent to me, the chopping.

I’m stalking the postman right now for the cast-iron bra and wicking top I ordered. As soon as they arrive I will have the perfect ensemble to start my Couch to 5K program. One of my purchases yesterday was a watch to help me track laps – and yes, Melissa Husband set it up for me last night 🙂 A little off the subject, but still in the way of fitness, is the current book I’m reading. I picked it up before my surgery because on some blog (which I cannot remember) I read before my surgery it received high reviews. It’s called Slow Fat Triathlete by Jayne Willams, and I highly recommend it as one of the funniest books I’ve ever read in my life. I’ve gleaned information from it too since she is a “fat” triathlete and gives great references on where we big girls can buy perfect exercise clothing.

I sat and paid bills today since Friday was payday.  I’ve been working on paying off my CCs and currently have 4.  None are maxed out, but they’re all higher than the zero balance I want on them.  I’m focusing on my WaMu card right now and I’ve put another $159 toward it.
