What are you giving up?

I keep reading about how so many people are giving up things in these ‘hard economic times.’  I haven’t decided yet if I’ve truly given anything up because of the ‘hard economic times’ or if I’m just not spending because of that lack of joy thing I mentioned in an earlier post, or because I’m saving my money for an upcoming trip to Hawaii with my BFF and another friend.

Have you given up anything because of the economy?

  1. We’re watching our pennies because DH got laid off, a result of the economy. I’m not buying as much stitching stuff, I’m not taking cake classes, we’re not eating out, and he’s not buying DVDs. I even bought baby clothes at the thrift store. We’re also not hiring another nanny; DH is taking care of our son until he gets a job or goes back to school in the spring. It’s going to be so rough when unemployment runs out.

Sorry for the rant. You asked. 😉

  2. I’ve definitely given up eating out as much, but that’s been about it so far. Accordingly, I can’t wait for Hawaii! It’ll be a treat to get out a few times. LOL

  3. I’ve put off my dream of buying a house this year. I’m going to wait 12 months. Hopefully, the economy will have improved. Because I’m a contractor (and not an employee), I don’t want to tempt fate.

Other than that, no real changes (yet).

  4. We’re more just re-distributing where the money is spent. Keeping DS in his various athletics is more important to me than getting a load of stash fabric just because I can.

  5. Terri,
Just wanted to pop over and wish you a great trip. I’ll be keeping you gals in my thoughts–enjoy, enjoy!

What am I giving up? Nada. Nothing—zip. I am trying to save more, so I guess that is a change of some sort.

    Again, aloha to you gals.

  6. We haven’t given up anything per se, but we are being more careful about how much we spend and on what we spend it. We were saving for a bedroom set, but then we came into a few medical bills, so almost half of the money for the bedroom set was spent on that. I guess we won’t be buying it anytime soon! For the most part, we are lucky in that my husband’s job is very secure and pretty much well protected from the current economy.
