Didn’t happen this morning. I had griping guts and didn’t think I could make it very far out the house. I’ve thought about going out this evening. It’s date night and I have no idea what time we’ll be home. If it’s not too late, and I remember not to stuff myself, I may go ahead and do it.

Last night Kahuna and I were talking about weight classes in triathlon – mainly the Athena class vs Age Groupers, and why people run outside of AG class.  In most races you’re considered an Athena if you weigh more than 155 pounds.  About 10 years ago I weighed 180 pounds and I looked and felt great.  I was doing step aerobics 6 days a week, and was lifting weights for tone.  Kahuna says he can remember seeing muscle definition in my back (yeah me!).  Thinking about that, and how strong I felt, I cannot imagine myself weighing 155 pounds, which just happens to be the maximum amount Weight Watchers says I should weigh for my height and age.  I have a long way to get to 180 and will really worry about it when it’s closer but I’d be lying if I tried to convince anyone that it’s not in the back of my mind quite frequently.

I’ve set myself some rewards for my goals.  My first goal is to lose 5% of my weight.  I don’t know what my reward will be yet.  My 2nd goal is to lose 10% of my weight.  I’m getting a tattoo then (sorry mom!).   My 3rd goal, 15% of my weight, I’ll probably start looking for something to swim in.  Something like this is what I have in mind and I’m hoping they’ll have my size by then.  My 4th goal, 20%, I’m buying myself membership at the local Y and I’m going to start swimming 3x a week.  I haven’t gotten any further than that, but that’s quite a bit.

Okay, I’m lying, I have gotten further, I just don’t know where it lies, but my main goal is to fit into this little dress that I ordered today.  Kahuna, be prepared to see it hanging out in the open, since it’s my inspiration dress.

On a totally unrelated note, I was very saddened to read about Pavarotti. It has been a long-time dream of mine to see him live, and it looks like I’ve lost out on that dream.

First to my cheerleaders. THANK YOU!!! Not only do I appreciate your support, but I desperately need it!

Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

My main goal this morning was to run at least 2 full 1-minute sessions, since 2 days ago I was able to run 1. The 1st minute was just as “easy” as the 1st minute 2 days ago. When it came time for the 2nd minute, I struggled a little but I did it and it ended much faster than I expected. When I heard the beep for the 3rd minute I just told myself I was going to go as far as I could without collapsing….I did the whole 3rd minute, but it was a struggle at the end. Then it came time for the 4th minute and I did it…but I prayed the whole way through, then I staggered back to the house for the rest of the 1.2.

Now I’m trying to decide what to do about the rest of the week. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I’m going to have to repeat week 1 and surprisingly I don’t feel down on myself about it. I’m sure I’ll have to repeat other weeks as well, and I have until November 22 to train. So since I really want to run on Mon, Wed and Fri, I’m wondering if I should just skip day 3 of this week and walk on Sat and Sun and start running again on Mon, or should I do day 3 Sun, and run Tue, Thu, Sat next week, then week 3 go to Mon, Wed, Fri. I also have to decide if I’m going to do my upper body workout tomorrow.

Anyway, What did I learn today?

  • My training watch is not really evil.
  • I had less trouble relaxing this time.
  • The pulling my shoulders up thing starts when I start to struggle.
  • Shuffling like army guys gets it done.
  • I could care less what the drivers passing me think (I thought I was going to have trouble with this one).
  • One rivulet of sweat running down my face is okay, more than one is icky….I’ll adjust.

I’m also wondering if I would have been able to attempt this pre-hysterectomy. It suddenly occurred to me this morning, while I was frightening the bunnies, that I feel good, even though it hurts! LOL Without getting TMI, I don’t feel anything moving around inside, and before I used to. <shrug> And here I thought it was normal to feel your stuff moving around inside!

I also think I had a user malfunction on my watch on Wednesday. This morning my finish time was 17:45 (I think) and I find it hard to believe that it took me longer today than it did 2 days ago, but who knows. It’s a new toy and I may have pushed a button sometime I shouldn’t have on Wednesday.

Oh, and my stitching mojo was whispering to me this morning that I’ve earned the right to sit on my butt and stitch for awhile. I used to look at my stitching as a reward for getting my homework done, and can’t help but wonder if the reason I’ve lost my mojo is because I no longer have homework, thus no “reward” plus it’s such a sedentary hobby that I got to feeling guilty about sitting there instead of trying to do something about my weight.

Have a great Labor Day weekend all.

P.S.  I’ve just found out my 70+ year old father was in a car accident yesterday.  He’s refusing to go to the doctor, so dad if you’re reading this, GO TO THE DOCTOR.  You’re upsetting mom and us kids.  Remember the last time, when you couldn’t move 3 weeks later?  GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

I didn’t know I could suck-wind so well! I didn’t make it to 20 minutes this morning. Nor was I able to “run” for 60 seconds after the 1st attempt. By the time I made it 3/4 of the way around my loop I wanted to rip off my training watch every time it beeped that it was time to run and stomp it into the ground, but my right calf hurt so much, and my left calf (which never bothers me) was starting to burn as well, and I was limping when I walked and would probably have fallen over and then I really would have been in a pickle. Neither of my calves hurt though when I “ran.” Go figure.

I kept having to tell myself to relax because I felt like I was trying to pull myself up by my shoulders. Then I felt like I was trying to take too long of a stride. You know those foreign army marching videos you see where they’re shuffling along…that was me. Without the gun. Or that’s how I felt anyway. I did, however, cut 2:15 off Monday’s 1.2 mile walking time. I’m trying to remind myself that I can take 2 weeks to accomplish week 1. It’s now 5 hours since I stopped and I just popped my first ibuprofen.

Celebrations

Bandit on guardToday we’re celebrating my sweet Bandit’s 4th birthday!  He’s being spoiled more than usual 😉

I’m also celebrating weigh in this morning, although I don’t feel like I should be. I ate horribly this past week, or at least I feel I did, but I had a 2.4# loss, that I’ll happily take.

And, last but certainly not least, I’m celebrating that I signed up for my first 5K. It’s in November, and the first thing that went through my head after I hit send was “what in the world am I thinking!!!” Tomorrow I’m starting the Couch-to-5K program on the Cool Running site.

Weekend recap

Melissa came to visit yesterday and we shopped until I had a blister on my foot.  I can honestly say I was home for about an hour and a half from the time I got out of bed, until she left.  I had a mani/pedicure appointment first thing and was home less than 30 minutes when she came driving up.  We went to lunch and then headed to Barnes and Nobles, Ulta, Avenue, Henry’s (I’m in love!), came home ate  some supper and then headed back out to Sports Authority and Bed, Bath and Beyond.  I slept great last night.

I had my first weigh-in after returning to WW this morning.  Down .6#  While a lot of people may be discouraged by this small amount I was fine with it.  I never worry too much about how many points I’m eating the first week since I’m really just getting myself in the habit of being accountable.  I also use the first week to gauge if how I’m eating is going to work for me.  I managed to have 10 weekly points left over, but there were a couple of days I felt like I was starving and wanted to eat everything in sight.

Since my meeting is at 9 a.m. I’m making sure my grocery list is ready the night before so I can hit the Commissary as soon as I leave the meeting.  This will help keep me motivated to stay with my grocery list and not pick up something that I probably really don’t need.  I have noticed over the past month or so that I’m more and more shopping from the perimeter of the store.  I would guess 90%.  I’m also buying pre-cut fruits and veggies since that seems to be the biggest deterent to me, the chopping.

I’m stalking the postman right now for the cast-iron bra and wicking top I ordered. As soon as they arrive I will have the perfect ensemble to start my Couch to 5K program. One of my purchases yesterday was a watch to help me track laps – and yes, Melissa Husband set it up for me last night 🙂 A little off the subject, but still in the way of fitness, is the current book I’m reading. I picked it up before my surgery because on some blog (which I cannot remember) I read before my surgery it received high reviews. It’s called Slow Fat Triathlete by Jayne Willams, and I highly recommend it as one of the funniest books I’ve ever read in my life. I’ve gleaned information from it too since she is a “fat” triathlete and gives great references on where we big girls can buy perfect exercise clothing.

I sat and paid bills today since Friday was payday.  I’ve been working on paying off my CCs and currently have 4.  None are maxed out, but they’re all higher than the zero balance I want on them.  I’m focusing on my WaMu card right now and I’ve put another $159 toward it.
